The port of Hong Kong has long been assuming the role as a
gateway for South China and as a platform for intermodal transport
providing connectivity with the mainland distribution network.
The
container terminals in Hong Kong compete in efficiency and
reliability.
Over the years, Hong Kong terminal operators have continuously
invested in the latest technology and have devoted significant
resources to improving terminal productivity. The container
terminals will continue to facilitate Hong Kong as a logistics
hub serving South China and the Pearl River Delta and to provide
real time information flow to help customers to plan and operate
more efficiently.
With the additional
capacity of Container Terminal 9(completed in 2004), the current capacity of
the Kwai Tsing container port is estimated at 24 million
Teus and is expected to be adequate to handle Hong Kong's
container throughput for the coming decade.
In terms of port security, all the container terminals have been certified as fully compliant with the International Maritime Organization's International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code as from July 2004. Such security measures are intended to maintain Hong Kong Port's position as a preferred gateway for goods transported to and from China.
To meet future
challenges, the Hong Kong container terminals are committed
to support Hong Kong's growth by offering and maintaining
reliable and efficient container handling services to all
terminal users in the transport chain. |
